THIS WEEK IN FASHION

I like that Solange is not taking the safe route and that she is trying out unexpected combinations and showing that she has some edge...as opposed to her sister...not hating on B, but her outfits are usually pretty predictable.

Here, Lohan borrows her girlfriend Ronson's hat to top off the outfit. The dress is cute...sexy yet easy and comfortable

Lady Gaga...hmmm, well I'm not mad that as an artist she has her own look..BUT..I'm not quite sure about this one...not a fan of the McDonald's color combo

um, what exactly happened here. Poor Karina is sportin a tacky weave...and has no idea....and the outfit is horrendous. Who let this girl go out in public like this???

Nas week....

So Nas has been on his grizzly with the promo run. His album dropped this past Tues...and I'm diggin it. It's been a long relationship...me and Nas...as a New Yorker and hip hop lover, I was a die hard fan of Illmatic...but the relationship has been a bit shaky, and on and off since. I have to say this album is SOLID. He has embraced the fact that he has something to say that goes beyond jewelery, cars and chicks...and seems like he's past deliberating whether he wants to take the fluff route or whether he wants to just do him...which is what he does best (letting you into his head). It's evident that he has just gone ahead and DONE him...so he gets the thumbs UP on this one. I think timing wise it's really good, bc he is questioning a lot about the world around us on this album...and although you may not agree with his views, he will create dialogue as he did with his "hip Hop is dead" statement. With the war going on and the state of the economy being what it is...people are looking more closeley at the govt and decisions being made...people aren't as willing to be led blindly...so as they say timing is everything...and he was on it this time around...

Wed night I went to Cabana where the Nas album release party took place. I didnt realize it was also an ESPY award after-party. I know there are tons of women in LA, but I was kind of like...damn Nas has a LOT of female fans (lookin a lot like groupies though)..but then I was informed that it was the athelete crowd...so that explained the THIRST that was in the air.
The party was cool...saw some folks in the bldg (or I should say plaza..it was outdoors)...Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, Pacific Division, Cool Kids..was good to see some of my NY folk in LA...Buttaman and Ethiopia...a bunch of tall dudes aka athletes (I'm bad at recognizing them in the dark)...sorrry..cant name drop on that one...where's Clari when ya need her!?!

Anyway...Night # 2...went to the Zune mansion to see a private Nas performance...Green Lantern was on the 1 and 2's. This crowd was kind of a combo of industry and fans...saw some more of my peoples...Pacific Divison again, Coodie (video director)and some others...
the show was dope...was good to see the performance in that intimate setting...he of course did "Aint Hard To Tell", "One Love", some other classics and brought it to "Hero" (which I like) and "Breathe" off of the current album.
So yeah that was my Nas run...good stuff..

Tonight is his Myspace performance at the Roxy, which I'm sure will be dope..but I think I've had my dose of Nas for the week...!

Mood

so mood is a fabric store located in the middle of manhattan...on 34th and 7th
as well as being a fabric store..occasionally it doubles as heaven...
Designers from all over Manhattan come to Mood for the fabrics simply because Mood is the best
it has 3 floors filled with fabrics, buttons ,ribbons...anything at all related to fabric can most likely be found there
they've been featured on everyone's favorite show, Project Runway, numerous times and a number of celebrities have graced their tiny (miniture) halls
I met different designers in the middle of their hussle and of course a celeb sighting(not)

the black woman on season 4's project runway(Carmen)

she was pretty cool..very eccentric looking...boho mets streetwear I guess
anyway so Mood is an amazing store...only complaint is that you cant cut your own swatches...waiting is not my cup of tea (they take a minute)
thats all for now

Project Runway: Episode 1

So...I watched Project Runway yesterday!! LOVE that show. First challenege was to create outfits out of materials they find in Gristede's (supermarket)...so people used, table cloths, food, plastic cups etc...
here are the results

CLICK ON THE PIC to enlarge the image

This was the winner. Congrats to Kelli...she used spiral notebook, thumbtacks, vacuum cleaner bags which she dyed and bleached and burned coffee filters to create lace...kinda crazy...I'd definitely chose her to be stranded on an island with...!

CUTE EVE piece in New York Times Style Section

The Handbag’s Best Friend
EVE, singer and clothing designer.

WHAT I’M WEARING NOW A bustier and pair of jeans from my line Fetish. The jewelry is Citrine, designed by a friend of a friend. And the bag is Balenciaga. It’s pink, my favorite color. I call it my girlfriend. We go everywhere together.

STYLE CREDO I love fashion, but if I could wear jeans and a T-shirt to every event, I’d be very happy.

WHEN DRESSING UP IS REQUIRED I love Louis Vuitton — you can’t go wrong in it. Stella McCartney is also a favorite. And Zac Posen. If I need a dress, I usually pull things from him. But I’ve also bought dresses of his. I buy more than I should.

LAST BIG PURCHASE(S) A pair of Alexander McQueen shoes. They’re black patent leather and gold with skulls at the end of the laces. And a sequin, navy blue and gold Chanel bag. I also have my eye on a pair of cream and black Chanel boots that go over the knee.

ON THE PAW PRINT TATTOOS I got them at 18. It was very much a rebellious act. Now that I’m 29, I consider them a part of me. I have no regrets. But ask me when I start breast-feeding and they turn into human hands.

ON THE AGENDA I’m relaunching Fetish this month, for the third time around. The materials are now a hundred times better, and it’s more grown up. It’s what I love to wear. I’m also recording my next album, which will hopefully be out in the fall. It’s fun music — the kind you want to listen to when you’re getting dressed.
